Petition addressed to: City of Johannesburg Municipal Council

Since June 2022, City of Joburg libraries have been closed on Saturdays, depriving thousands of residents of access to books, study spaces, computers, internet services, and community programmes on the one day many can use them.

Reason

LIBRARIES ARE AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE for learners, job seekers, working residents, seniors, and community groups.

Thank you so much for your support, Joburg Crisis Alliance, Johannesburg

Why people sign

Because there people who are working and studying at the needs to have access to information.

Reading builds literacy and academic success. Most South African children can't read to understand, many due to a lack of resources available at home. They need access to public books.

I work Monday to Friday. Saturday is the only day I can get to go to the library. Im in full support

Cannot attend in the week

Because people need to access the Library on a Saturday for research and work. During the week they work or are at study institutions. No use then to have a library open that a lot of people can't access.
