My mom works at Carson City School District as a Kindergarten teacher. I attend CHS and because of this I’m thinking of going online or to Pioneer.

Honestly crazy how the school will take away food just for pouches. I guarantee you that some people will start selling unlocking mechanisms or find blind spots in the system. It’s unfair how teachers can have their own phones because some use it just for the same reason we do. Most people I know in the school mainly just use it to change a song in their airpods or when they’re done they get an opportunity from the teacher to be on their phone as a reward, which I think is pretty good motivation to get through the school day without being bored to death. The phone is an escape for most too, as much as I see people start drama through the phones, just because few do it doesn’t mean everyone else has to suffer.

Plus like, wherever they put the unlocking thing, kids will have to individually in a line unlock their pouch. Most kids just line-up at the door waiting for the bell. Teachers will have to make adjustments to their own lesson plans for unlocking phones or locking phones which I’m sure will be an unnecessary hassle.

Because im a student in the district and i understand some of the benefits of the pouches but the district claims to have gotten them for the wrong reasons claiming its too cut back on cyberbullying as if the cyberbullying occuring between students is mostly outside of school and rarely takes place on campus. A phone free learning enviroment althought ideal is more of a hassle to try and enforce instead of focusing on true problems such as bullying going on campus and other activities like students bringing weapons on campus. Another thing its lame as hell we are getting charged hella for food that not even the food bank i go to would serve, five dollars for a chance of moldy mandarin oranges and a freezer burnt "spicy" chicken sandwich.

taking away phones is going in a backwards direction then schools should be going. School systems should be accepting of the technology that our generations have. we are only going to go up in technology and banning it from schools is only going to have students become more sneaky and unwilling to cooperate with faculty.

I am a senior and made it through highschool just fine and am on my way to getting a millennium scholarship whilst having my phone in most of my classes. People who chronically use their phones and are always failing classes made that choice but the majority of people that are thriving in highschool with their phones dont deserve to be punished for other peoples behavior. This could hinder a lot of students motivation to learn and ability to focus in class because they will be too anxious thinking about all the notifications they are missing. Especially for seniors, we have spent our first 3 years on our phones and will definitely be hurt the most by this. It would be more effective and efficient to start this with freshmen each year so it naturally reaches each grade. But for people that have been here for years it is too large of a change to make so late in our school lives. On top of this, there are many teachers I know of that embrace phone usage and even require it to do certain projects and connect better with the students.

This petition is important not only for my safety but for my peers safety as well. The school says if in emergency they would take action by contacting the parents but last time there was a school shooter threat the school didn’t make parents aware until their kids have been in lockdown for 1 hour. That is dangerous and unethical students should have their phone to contact their parents in an emergency as soon as they happen because the school never takes immediate action. This can also be very hard for kids who have certain accommodations and music helps them focus or kids with diabetes who check their blood pressure on their phone. The email stated that time management wouldn’t be an issue because there are clocks around, and you have cromebooks, which is very unethical because you can not see a clock from most spots of the school and pulling out a cromebook to check the time in the middle of passing period is unethical and would make time management ultimately worse.

Because if I were to be in a school shooting or a life or death or something deadly type of situation I wouldn't be able to contact my parents because of the pouches vs if I don't have them I would be able to and they could get to the school ASAP and I could get out faster, it's also important it gets removed because if something happened to one of my family members I wouldn't be able to know. Also the last reason is, if I had a doctor's appointment or a dentist appointment and my parents weren't here on time, how would I know if it got cancelled or rescheduled or pushed the time a bit? I wouldn't vs without the pouches I would be able to know, in conclusion I think all my reasoning/evidence should be enough for the schools to at least see our side somewhat

the school gets way too many shooting threats and overall just too many shitty things that happen at school for me to not have contact with anyone. and also, they took away our free food because they couldn’t afford the phone pouches. NEWS FLASH we would all like to eat waaay more then we all want to “cyber bully” each other. cyber bullying doesn’t usually happen at school. please, take control of an issue that happens at school. most kids don’t feel safe at school and i can tell you it’s not because of the phone. if anything the phone is an escape.

My daughter is a senior at Carson High and I oppose her being restricted from her phone. I agree with the future tech learning being compromised with these pouches as well as my daughter’s safety on a daily basis. She should be able to contact us if she needs us during any situation.

My son who has life threatening food allergies should have access to his phone to call me, his dad on his brother that is on campus.

If their is a shooter and his wants to communicate with me than by all means that is his right.

What about the kids who need safe voice and the NAMI text line in the middle of the day?

I use my phone for contacting my parents when needed, if I have a panic attack I can message or call them and have them walk me through it. I use my phone for music so I can focus on class. I use my phone for scheduling and organizing thoughts. Some classes use phones because the computers have restrictions or so we can easily get information thats written down so we don't have to write it all over again.

Safety and security. I attended a school within the carson city school district and with the threats and violence that has occurred in recent years I am uncomfortable with the idea of having my phone locked up in a situation where I might be seriously injured.
